Earlier this month, Save the Boundary Waters returned to Madison, Wisconsin, for Canoecopia 2024 - “the World’s Largest Paddling Expo." We had a fantastic time connecting with the paddling community and Boundary Waters supporters from all across the country over four busy days. Our staff kicked off the weekend by hosting a pre-Canoecopia happy hour on Thursday at Black Rose Blending Co, a new local business who generously donated $1 from every full pour beverage back to the Campaign.
At Canoecopia, we had four staff members (Amanda Hefner, Thompson Blodgett, Kelsey Polcher, and Amy Yoelin), new volunteers, and returning volunteers help staff our booth to make the expo a success. We talked to hundreds of people throughout the weekend, educating folks on our mission, the threat of sulfide-ore copper mining in the watershed of the Boundary Waters, and our path towards permanent protection. We also had a chance to meet with our business supporters, including, Sea to Summit, Glørud Paddle, Bending Branches, Northstar Canoes, Paddle and Portage, Granite Gear, Sven Saw, and more.
Special thanks to REDBUDS who donated Gunflint Peppermint Bars for us to sell, and to Old Mustache Canoe Paddles for donating a portion of proceeds of sales back to us.
We look forward to returning for Canoecopia 2025!
