It's been a busy week for Save the Boundary Waters. Our team was in Washington, DC, for Wilderness Week with the National Wilderness Coalition, a group of conservation advocates that builds political power and advances wilderness legislation.

Our work to achieve permanent protection for the Boundary Waters is gaining incredible momentum! We met with key elected officials and their staff to discuss the urgent need to protect the watershed of the Boundary Waters permanently.

Here are just some of the highlights from our trip:

  • We joined forces with like-minded conservationists from across the country to build political power and advance crucial legislation through the newly formed National Wilderness Coalition.
  • We hosted a successful supporter event, which has helped to build awareness around our work.
  • Our team met with key elected officials and their staff to discuss the urgent need to protect the Boundary Waters.
  • We also took the time to educate key members of the press about the serious threats facing the region.
  • Finally, we led well-received lobbying meetings in both House and Senate offices.

However, despite these positive developments, we are still up against some serious attacks on the Boundary Waters.

Anti-wilderness proponents in Congress are seeking to overturn the current 20-year ban on sulfide-ore copper mining next to the BWCA. We are working tirelessly this week to ensure this and any other anti-wilderness legislation does not gain traction. This is why we urgently need your continued support to keep fighting for this special place.

Right now is a critical time in the fight to protect the Boundary Waters, and we're grateful for the generous support of long-time donors like you. To honor the 60th anniversary, a dedicated supporter has pledged a $60,000 matching gift! That means every dollar you contribute right now will be doubled, automatically making your gift go twice as far for the BWCA!
